"They told me to grow roots, instead I grew wings" -Lou
Many women have nomadic souls. Or at least an occasional craving to wander free from time to time. Some of these women are travelers and modern day shape shifters. Traveling from experience to experience. Learning, growing and expanding themselves beyond structural and cultural norms. Spreading the most infectious kind of pleasure along the way. Leaving all who meet them forever changed.
What happens to a woman with a nomadic soul who is denied her ability to travel, wander and explore? A woman who ignores the wanderlust of her heart? What happens to this woman when she stands still? What happens to the world?
This woman looses her balance, falls sideways and falls short. A woman with a nomadic soul was designed to leave her mark on the world. To weave in and out of places like a butterfly drifting from flower to flower tasting the unique nectar each has to offer. When she is denied this birthright, either by herself or someone else, she looses her shine. She begins to dull and so does the world around her.
As a nomadic woman who spent far to much time standing still, dulling her shine, removing herself from the world that needs her light...I understand how it feels to be stuck.
Stuck in your own patterns.
Stuck in the voices in your head causing doubt.
Stuck in someones vision for you.
How does a nomadic woman reclaim her wanderlust and courage?
By finding her balance. Her center. By giving herself permission to unapologetically adventure, travel, wander, weave and share her light with the world.
So how does she do these things? How does she reclaim all that she is destined to be?
The answer lies in her destined purpose….she must go on a journey.
She must begin to stretch herself outside the confines of a life that holds her still.
She must challenge her own thinking and get clear with her own vision and dreams.
She must step onto the path and begin to put one foot in front of the other.
She must begin to walk to she can prepare herself to fly.
Does this sound familiar? Does it spark a fire in your belly and make your chest feel tight with eager longing? Are you a nomadic woman who has felt stuck for too long? Are you ready to reclaim the wanderlust that lives in your soul?
Here are a few things you can do to start to connect with the nomadic woman inside you...
1) Take a drive
Drive somewhere you have never been before. Let yourself go whichever direction feels right, or head to a place you have always wanted to visit. Don’t over think it. Just go and enjoy the adventure.
2) Connect with nature
When was the last time you connected to nature and all she has to offer? Go camping, or glamping, or rent a yurt, or cabin. Whatever will offer you peace and solitude. You can even set up a tent in your own backyard...it doesn’t matter. Surround yourself with the natural world and explore.
3) Get out of town
Where have you always wanted to travel? It doesn’t matter if it’s the next town over or another continent. Make a list of all the places you would like to visit and go see them!
4) Strap on a backpack and wander your neighborhood
Take an afternoon off from chores and go wander your neighborhood or home town. Take the dog. Take the kids. Or go alone. Pack a bag with water, snacks and any other small comforts you may need and spend the day seeing your neighborhood from the eyes of a nomadic woman.
5) Visit a friend or family member you have not seen in a long time
Make a trip to visit someone you have not seen in awhile. Experience their life. See the world through their eyes.
6) Buy a plane ticket
Revisit that list of places you want to go...and buy a plane ticket. Once you have the ticket the rest of the planning will work itself out.
Start with one thing. You do not have to completely rearrange your life...unless of course that is something you want to do. Just take one step. Do one thing...and then do another.
Capture the adventure. Take pictures, journal each day’s experience, record the story. Capture it and share it with others who may be inspired to reclaim their own nomadic soul. When one of us takes a step toward joy, pleasure and fulfillment...we all benefit.
