I have been blessed to know many amazing, talented, creative, skilled, strong, graceful, beautiful, phenomenal women. But there is a common theme that runs between us...
We all hold ourselves back. We hold back our power. We hold back our potential. We hold back our voices. We hold back our possibilities. We hold back our opportunities. We hold back our truest and most authentic selves.
Why do we hold back?
What drive us to believe we must halt our own progress and stifle our own dreams?
It’s different for each of us. There are obligations to family, friends, careers, homes and all the intricate details that go along with running our lives. For some, it is believing that if we do for ourselves once in awhile we are somehow taking away from the other important relationships and aspects of our lives. For others it is fear of the unknown. Or even a lack of belief in our own capabilities. What if none of these things were true? What if we could be amazing mothers, spouses, friends, employee’s, bosses, students...AND stop holding ourselves back from doing the things we deeply desire?
WE CAN & WE MUST!
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” -Mark Twain
When we hold ourselves back from following our interests, passions and dreams we deny ourselves the things that light us up and make life truly worth living. We deny ourselves joy, happiness, success, contentment, desire, passion, love and a host of other yummy juicy feelings and experiences. Feelings and experiences that make us better at everything else we do because we feel full, happy, content, capable.
In what ways do you hold yourself back?
What do you do in your life that keeps a distance between you and your goals, dreams, and desires?
Is it your thoughts? Your actions? The way you give time to everyone else except yourself? Is it thinking that you are never going to succeed? That your not good enough, not smart enough, not educated enough, not pretty enough, you don’t have enough time or money...or something else on the list of crap you allow yourself to believe?
today is the day to STOP holding back. Today let’s throw down the gauntlet and challenge ourselves to make time, to find the money, to believe that we can and that we deserve, to do the things that feed our souls and elevate our lives.
You are made for more than holding back.
You are more than your resistance.
You are more than your excuses.
You are more than your fear.
You are more than your lost sense of power.
You are more than your own bull shit.
Challenge yourself today!
Listen to your heart, close your eyes, breath, connect to your heart, let her speak to you.
What is she saying?
What does she whisper to you?
What does she want?
What does she need?
What does she desire?
What is one thing you will give yourself permission to do today that will bring you pure joy and delight?
No matter what your brain says, the thoughts that creep into your head, the fears or excuses that come up, or what someone may or may not think of you. Push through your resistance, find your courage, grab onto it and
don’t hold back!
“I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.”-Eric Roth, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
I would love to hear about what you did, how it went and how you felt.
Was it easier than you thought? More challenging?
